The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Thursday opened a two-day Regional Crime Officers’ Conference in Accra, with a call to strengthen the investigative capacity of crime officers nationwide. He was accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB).
The conference, which brought together Crime Officers from all twenty-five Police Regions and Directors of selected units at the CID Headquarters, is aimed at highlighting the role of Crime Officers in criminal investigations and enhancing their effectiveness in modern policing.
In his opening address, the IGP underscored the critical role Crime Officers play in combating crime, particularly in the face of increasingly sophisticated criminal trends. He stressed that contemporary criminal activities demand advanced investigative approaches, high levels of professionalism, and continuous capacity building to ensure effective law enforcement.
Mr. Yohuno reaffirmed his commitment to improving the investigative standards of the Ghana Police Service, noting that stronger investigative capabilities are essential to staying ahead of crime and restoring public confidence in the Service.
Welcoming participants, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, urged officers to engage actively in the deliberations. She emphasized that the success of criminal prosecutions largely depends on the quality of investigations conducted.
The two-day conference is expected to produce strategies to enhance investigative practices and strengthen the fight against crime across the country.
