Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Meets Ghana’s First Deputy Speaker

A delegation from the State of Palestine, led by Hon. Dr. Varsen O.V. Aghabekian, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor.

Dr. Aghabekian said the meeting was aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Ghana and Palestine, stressing the urgent need to liberate and legitimize the Palestinian state. She noted that Palestine has struggled for decades to gain independence and called for recognition of its sovereignty. The Minister expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his recent statement on the war in Palestine, adding that peace can only be achieved through justice.

Hon. Ahiafor welcomed the delegation, affirming Parliament’s commitment to deepening relations between the two nations. He highlighted the historical friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect dating back to the era of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He further disclosed that Ghana had recently sent forty metric tons of Golden Tree cocoa products to support Palestinian civilians facing hardship. He emphasized the strong collaboration between the two countries in trade, investment, and economic exchange, noting significant potential in agriculture, agribusiness, construction, manufacturing, and services.

“The role of our respective Parliaments is very important in advancing these relationships,” Hon. Ahiafor stated, underscoring Ghana’s readiness to continue supporting Palestine in both humanitarian and diplomatic efforts.
