7-Year-Old Girl’s AbuseTrail Adjourned To December 12 After Judge’s Absence

The case involving Amina, the 7-year-old girl who was burnt by her caretaker for bedwetting, has been adjourned to December 12, 2025. The adjournment was necessary following the absence of a substantive judge to hear the matter.

Amina suffered severe burns on her laps and private parts after her caretaker, Aisha, allegedly punished her for bedwetting. Although the case was initially reported to the Nima DOVVSU, it was later withdrawn. However, intense social media outrage forced authorities to reinstate the case, and the suspect is now facing prosecution.

Speaking to Baina TV, Lawyer Clifford Annan Zumah Junior, counsel for Amina, said he is currently liaising with the prosecutor to determine whether the case can be heard earlier than the new date. He called on the public to be present in court during the hearings to show support for the young victim.

Another member of the legal team, Lawyer Saratu Jennifer Sulaiman, disclosed that the accused was granted police inquiry bail. She added that discussions about bail pending trial will take place at the next court sitting.

She further noted that Amina has been placed under the care of her maternal relatives to protect her well-being, following interference from her paternal side. She advised the grandmother in particular, to keep a distance to allow Amina to recover emotionally and psychologically.

Family spokesperson, Imam Abdul Razar, said the family is determined to pursue justice. He expressed hope that the outcome of this case will inspire other victims within the Zongo community to speak up, ensuring that all child abusers are brought to justice.
