The Northern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the IGP’s Special Operations Team, has arrested twenty-seven suspects in what authorities describe as a major clampdown on drug peddling and related criminal activities across the Northern Region.

The coordinated swoops, carried out on 19th November 2025 at several drug hotspots in and around Tamale, targeted suspected drug dealers believed to be operating within the metropolis. The police say dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, packed in polythene bags, were seized during the exercise. Five motorbikes suspected to have been used in facilitating the illicit trade were also impounded.

A police statement signed by the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer, C/Inspr. Alhassan Luckman Niendow, listed some of the suspects as Iddrisu Abdul Bassit, Iddrisu Sadick, Yawuza Hishan, Yakubu Yussif, Alhassan Abukari, Mutaru Daniel Fisco, Ibrahim Abdul Wakil, Hawa Abdul Rahman, Latifa Iddrisu, Mariam Fuseini, Ibrahim Sadia, Alima Iddrisu, Issah Latifa, among others, with some yet to be identified.
The statement added that further operations extended to other parts of the Tamale metropolis led to additional arrests, bringing the total number of suspects to 27. All suspects have since been handed over to the Northern Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for ongoing investigations.
On Friday, 21st November 2025, nine of the suspects—comprising five females and four males—were arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court on charges of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
