Viral Domestic Violence Case: Three Remanded as Police Seek Victim’s Whereabouts

The Ghana Police Service has remanded three individuals at the centre of a viral domestic violence incident that has sparked public outrage across the country.

According to a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 19th November 2025, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has taken into custody John Odartey Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, after he was captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife. He has been charged with Physical Assault under Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).

Two others — Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey — have also been arrested. They face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically threat of harm, under Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The police say the pair attempted to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and circulating the viral video.

All three suspects have been remanded and are scheduled to reappear before the court on 3rd December 2025.

Meanwhile, the Police Service is calling on the assaulted woman — whose current location remains unknown — or anyone with credible information about her whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

The statement, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo of the CID Public Relations Unit, assured the public that all information shared with the police will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.

This case has reignited nationwide discussions on domestic violence, bystander intervention, and the importance of reporting abuse. The police say investigations are ongoing.
