Ghana, Qatar Strengthen Ties with New Security and Trade Initiatives

Ghana and Qatar have taken significant steps to deepen bilateral relations following high-level engagements between Ghanaian Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Qatari officials.

Mr. Ablakwa expressed gratitude to Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense, His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, and the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, HE Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, for what he described as “profoundly productive and mutually beneficial” discussions.

The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in security and defense, with both nations pledging to enhance alliances between their armed forces and collaborate on global conflict resolution initiatives.

In addition to security matters, the two countries agreed to establish the first Ghana-Qatar Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is expected to bolster trade relations, open new markets, and create opportunities for businesses from both nations.

Mr. Ablakwa noted that the momentum in Ghana-Qatar relations is “heartwarming,” emphasizing that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and mutual growth.

The latest engagements mark a new chapter in Ghana’s diplomatic outreach to the Gulf region, positioning both countries to benefit from stronger economic and security ties.
