NAIMOS Taskforce Executes Major Anti-Galamsey Raid in Obuasi

The NAIMOS Taskforce has undertaken a significant crackdown on illegal mining operations in Obuasi, resulting in the confiscation of equipment and the arrest of a suspected mastermind.

This was disclosed in a statement released after the joint security team carried out coordinated raids on Monday, November 17, 2025.

According to the Taskforce, the mission was triggered by “credible intelligence” indicating that illegal miners had forcefully occupied portions of a legally secured concession at Anyankyireml, owned by Asanti Gold Corporation.

Reports suggest the trespassers had prevented the company from gaining access to its rightful site.

The Taskforce noted that the targeted zones included sensitive areas near the Obuasi Airport, where unlawful mining activities had recently been flagged in public reports.

During the operation, officers impounded several items such as motorbikes, water pumps, and vehicles. Temporary shelters erected on the mining grounds were also demolished to stop the operators from regrouping.

While many miners escaped upon sighting the Taskforce, one individual identified as a principal coordinator of the illegal activities was apprehended.

He is currently being held by police and is expected to face charges following further investigations.

The Taskforce stressed that the raid forms part of ongoing nationwide measures to combat illegal mining, which continues to harm forests, farmlands, and water resources across Ghana.

This latest action adds to a string of intensified enforcement efforts in the Ashanti Region, where several communities remain hotspots for galamsey despite persistent government campaigns to eliminate the practice.
