Akufo-Addo Honored at DUA Forum, Calls for Inclusive Governance Across Africa

At the Democracy Union of Africa (DUA) forum held yesterday in Nairobi, Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana delivered a powerful address reaffirming the organization’s pivotal role in shaping the future of democratic governance across the continent.

Speaking to a distinguished gathering of African leaders, policymakers, and civil society advocates, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for modernization in all spheres of African society — from production and distribution systems to inclusive governance frameworks. He called on member states to embrace reforms that prioritize equity and reject racism and ethnocentrism, describing these values as central to DUA’s mission.

“DUA must continue to lead the discourse in our various nations for the modernization of our societies,” he stated, “where inclusion, free of racism and ethnocentrism, becomes the hallmark of our outreach as we seek to deepen democracy and accountable governance.”

In a moment of personal significance, the President expressed heartfelt gratitude to the DUA Forum for naming the prestigious African Democracy Award in his honor. The award recognizes his enduring commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and regional cooperation.

The forum, which convenes annually, serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among African nations striving to strengthen democratic institutions and promote good governance. This year’s event focused on strategies for inclusive development and the role of regional partnerships in sustaining democratic progress.

President Akufo-Addo’s remarks were met with resounding applause, underscoring his influence as a leading voice for democratic reform and unity on the continent.
