A high-level delegation from Mozambique’s Kimberly Process Management has concluded a two-day study visit to Ghana, seeking to learn from the country’s experience in regulating gold trading and certification.
The Kimberly Process Management, operating under Mozambique’s Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, is responsible for ensuring the legality of rough diamonds, precious metals, and gemstones. Their visit to Ghana forms part of a broader effort to reform Mozambique’s gold market and align with international standards.
The exchange programme centred on the Ghana Gold Buying and Distribution Company (Goldbod), which has become a key institution in Ghana’s mineral economy. Goldbod’s role in streamlining gold transactions, enhancing transparency, and supporting government revenue generation has positioned it as a model for other African nations.
During the visit, the Mozambican delegation engaged with officials from Goldbod and other regulatory bodies. They received a comprehensive overview of Goldbod’s operational framework, including its certification processes, compliance mechanisms, and partnerships across the gold value chain.
The visit also included site tours and policy discussions aimed at fostering regional collaboration and knowledge sharing in mineral governance.
Mozambique’s interest in Ghana’s model reflects a growing trend among African nations to strengthen their mineral sectors through institutional reforms and inter-country cooperation.
