The Accra Regional Police Command launched investigations into violent disturbances that marred the climax of the annual Homowo Festival at Sowutuom and Anyaa on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Regional Police Affairs Unit on Sunday, August 31, a misunderstanding erupted between supporters of two rival chiefs during the celebration, resulting in violent confrontations and injuries to some individuals.

The situation escalated when a group attempted to forcibly occupy the festival grounds, prompting swift intervention by police personnel. Five suspects—Joshua Shabu Dodoo, 38; Seth Tetteh, 45; Joseph Shabu Dodoo, 40; Benjamin Shabu Dodoo, 36; and Michael Shabu Dodoo, 35—were arrested and are currently assisting with investigations.
In response to the unrest, the Command deployed additional officers to the affected communities to restore calm and maintain law and order. The police are also engaging traditional leaders and other stakeholders to ensure peace prevails.
The statement, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. It further cautioned the public against acts that could incite violence and encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and assured the public that it would enforce the law without fear or favour.
