The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that production of ballot papers for the forthcoming parliamentary by-election in Akwatia is set to begin on Wednesday, August 20.
This update follows a pivotal meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) earlier today, where representatives from various political parties gathered to deliberate on strategies to prevent electoral violence and finalize essential security protocols for the upcoming vote.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, confirmed, “As of now, we are going to start the printing of ballots from tomorrow.”
“Procurement has already been done. We have procured all the materials required for the election, so we are already,” he added
This development comes in response to the unexpected death of Akwatia’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, earlier this year, which triggered the need for a by-election to fill the vacant seat.
The late MP, who served under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), passed away in July 2025, prompting the EC to initiate preparations for the replacement process.
During Tuesday’s engagement, the IGP briefed political stakeholders on vital security measures designed to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
Benjamin Bano-Bioh also emphasized the Commission’s readiness, stating, “We are poised to deliver on our mandate in a professional way.”
“We call on political parties to play by the rules,” he urged.
