Ntim Fordjour Calls for Ablakwa’s Resignation and Apology to President Akufo-Addo Over Presidential Jet Controversy

Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called on Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to resign and issue a public apology to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over what he described as politicisation of presidential travel matters.

In a statement shared via social media on Monday, August 18, Rev. Fordjour criticised the Minister and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for engaging in what he termed “petty politics” surrounding the use and condition of Ghana’s presidential aircraft.

“Mr Principle, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana, is expecting your resignation. NDC must apologise to Ghanaians and Prez Akufo-Addo for doing petty politics with presidential travels,” Rev Fordjour wrote.

Rev. Fordjour argued that concerns about the safety and reliability of the current presidential jet are too critical to be trivialised. He urged government to take decisive action by presenting a formal proposal for the acquisition of a new aircraft to ensure the President’s safety and uphold the dignity of the office during international engagements.

“Govt must be bold to submit a proposal for the acquisition of a new Presidential Jet for the President’s safety,” he insisted.

His comments come amid renewed public debate over the condition of Ghana’s presidential jet and its suitability for long-haul travel. Rev. Fordjour emphasised that national interest must override partisan considerations, insisting that the security of the Head of State should be treated with utmost urgency.
