President Mahama Announces Scholarship Support for Children of Fallen Servicemen

President John Dramani Mahama, on Tuesday, August 12, paid a heartfelt visit to the families of three Ghana Air Force personnel who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on August 6 in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

During the visit, he announced the establishment of an educational support fund for the children of the deceased.

The servicemen Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah were among eight individuals who died in the accident. The crash also claimed the lives of prominent government officials.

On Sunday, August 10, the nation mourned the loss of Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed in solemn memorial services that drew large crowds.

President Mahama revealed that a state funeral honoring all eight victims will take place on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square. As part of the commemorative events, he will officially launch the education fund aimed at providing financial assistance to the children of those who perished, ensuring they can continue their academic journey without economic barriers.

In his remarks, the President called on Ghanaians to transform their sorrow into a renewed commitment to national development. “Let the sacrifice of these brave men and women inspire us to build a more united and resilient Ghana,” he urged.
