Manchester City Winger Jeremy Doku Granted Ghanaian Citizenship

Manchester City star and Belgium international, Jeremy Doku, has officially been granted Ghanaian citizenship after acquiring a Ghanaian passport.

The 23-year-old winger, who was born in Antwerp, Belgium to Ghanaian parents, made a personal request for citizenship during a recent visit to Ghana with his wife and family. The move was confirmed by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who disclosed that the passport was issued following Doku’s request.

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed that the passport issuance was at the personal request of Doku and his family during a visit last week.

Although Doku continues to represent Belgium at the international level, his new chip-embedded Ghanaian passport will allow him to travel freely to Ghana and engage more deeply in cultural and national initiatives.

During his visit, the Manchester City winger paid courtesy calls on Sports Minister Kofi Adams and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. His visit and new status have sparked excitement among Ghanaians, with many hailing it as a significant homecoming.

Doku’s dual citizenship opens doors for greater collaboration between the player and Ghanaian sports and cultural sectors, as he now holds the privilege to contribute more actively to the country of his heritage.
