The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has reiterated his demand for the removal of Jean Mensa and the leadership of the Electoral Commission (EC), calling it “long overdue” due to multiple electoral irregularities.
Speaking on Maakye on Onua TV on Wednesday, June 11, Asiedu Nketia vowed to keep pushing for the dismissal of the Commission, insisting that a formal petition will eventually be filed to trigger the constitutional process.
“The fact is that the Commission in its current state is not fit for purpose,” he stated. “Everybody knows.”
He referenced the EC’s failure to conduct elections in the Guan Constituency in 2020, which resulted in the people of Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) going without parliamentary representation for four years, a situation that was finally addressed with Fred Agbenyo’s election in 2024.
The NDC Chairman also criticized the EC’s handling of the Ablekuma North Parliamentary Elections, alleging procedural inconsistencies that undermined electoral integrity.
“From the Volta Region, then directly to Greater Accra Region,” he remarked, pointing to irregularities in election administration.
Asiedu Nketia has maintained that Ghana’s democratic institutions require urgent reform, stating that a restructured electoral body is necessary to ensure transparent, fair elections in the future.
