National Security personnel have withdrawn from the residence of Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following a dramatic standoff with his supporters.
The security operatives arrived at Wontumi’s Paraku Estate home early Friday morning, reportedly to execute a search warrant. However, the operation quickly attracted a large crowd, including NPP supporters and senior party officials, leading to a tense confrontation between law enforcement and Wontumi’s loyalists.
According to eyewitnesses, security personnel attempted to gain access to the residence, but were met with resistance from supporters who demanded clarification on the motive behind the raid.
Reports initially suggested that Wontumi was placed under house arrest, though his exact location during the standoff remained unclear.
While a search warrant was reportedly sighted, details surrounding the reason for the operation remain vague. Some sources suggest it could be linked to ongoing investigations, but no official confirmation has been provided by authorities.
After hours of back-and-forth, National Security operatives withdrew from the premises, leaving many unanswered questions about the raid’s intent and possible political implications.
The incident has sparked widespread speculation, with political observers questioning the timing and motive behind the security operation. Meanwhile, NPP supporters have vowed to remain vigilant, insisting that any action against their regional chairman must be transparent and justified.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and it remains to be seen whether Wontumi will address the unfolding controversy.
