Police Arrest Former Boxer Over Alleged Death Threat

 The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer, Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, in connection with an alleged threat of death against Mr. Yaw Ampofo, Director-General of the National Sports Authority.

According to a police statement, the arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media in which the 46-year-old ex-boxer is alleged to have issued the threat.

Mr. Okai is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The Command assured the public that inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and pledged to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The police further urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while investigations continue.

The case has drawn attention to the intersection of sports governance, public safety, and the role of social media in shaping public discourse around high-profile incidents.
