Health Ministry Reviews Progress on NDC Manifesto Commitments

The Ministry of Health has commenced a three‑day mid‑year review of government’s health sector commitments contained in the NDC 2024 Manifesto, bringing together Board Chairs, Chief Executives of health agencies, and Directors of the Ministry.

Led by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the retreat is assessing progress, identifying challenges, and strengthening implementation of key initiatives aimed at improving access to quality, affordable, and equitable healthcare nationwide.

Among the commitments under review are the Free Primary Healthcare initiative, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCare), retooling of health facilities, expansion of the NHIS, and the introduction of specialized nursing programmes. Updates are also being provided on the construction of additional regional hospitals in the six newly created regions, establishment of cataract centres, formalisation of nursing trainee allowances, recruitment of health professionals, and completion of abandoned health projects.

As part of the retreat, participants are undergoing training on Public Financial Management to ensure prudent use of resources and strengthen governance across the sector.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to delivering on its mandate and working towards the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), while ensuring that healthcare services remain accessible, affordable, and responsive to the needs of all Ghanaians.
