Ghanaian Evacuee from South Africa Dies At Accra Airport

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced with deep sadness the death of a Ghanaian evacuee from South Africa shortly after arrival at the Accra International Airport.

The incident occurred at the Emergency Medical Reception at 6:55 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, following the arrival of 50 Ghanaians aboard an Air Tanzania flight. Reports from fellow passengers indicated that the deceased’s health condition began to deteriorate about 30 minutes before landing.

A medical emergency team on standby attended to him immediately upon arrival, but despite efforts, doctors confirmed his passing at 6:55 p.m. The Ministry has arranged for the remains to be deposited at the Police Hospital for autopsy and is undertaking formalities to inform the bereaved family.

The Ministry expressed its condolences and pledged to provide updates after engaging with the family. The sad development comes amid ongoing government‑led evacuations of Ghanaians from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks.
