Presidency Issues Urgent Flood Safety Advisory

The Presidency has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues to cause widespread flooding across parts of the country.

In a statement released Sunday evening, authorities emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to safety advisories. “Stay indoors if you are in a safe location. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads, whether on foot or in a vehicle,” the advisory read.

Officials warned that homes in low-lying areas may be inundated and advised residents to move immediately to higher ground if necessary. Emergency assistance is available by calling 112.

Motorists were specifically cautioned to avoid flood-prone routes, including the Mallam–Kasoa Road, Alajo, and Graphic Road corridors. Drivers encountering floodwaters are advised to turn around and seek elevated ground rather than risk crossing.

The public has also been urged to unplug electrical appliances and avoid contact with electrical poles, transformers, and fallen power lines to prevent electrocution.

“Your safety is paramount. Please follow official updates and emergency directives,” the statement concluded.
