The Government’s proposed Women’s Bank Project has recorded significant progress, with preparatory work completed and the incorporation of WDB GH Ltd earlier this year.
Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, informed Parliament that the initiative, first announced in the 2025 Budget, has received increased financial backing. He disclosed that while GH¢51.3 million has already been allocated, an additional GH¢450 million has been earmarked in the 2026 Budget to support the project’s rollout.
Answering questions posed by the Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Hon. Martin Kweku Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the Deputy Minister explained that the incorporation of WDB GH Ltd on January 26, 2026 marked a major milestone. He added that Government has applied to the Bank of Ghana for the necessary operating licence to enable the institution to commence operations.
Hon. Ampem, who also serves as MP for Asuogyaman, assured the House that a comprehensive update on the project will be delivered by the Finance Minister during the upcoming Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in July.
The Women’s Bank Project is expected to provide tailored financial services to women, strengthen access to credit, and promote inclusive economic growth by empowering female entrepreneurs and households across Ghana.
