The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has been instructed to investigate a viral video depicting one student physically attacking another.
In a statement, Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, confirmed that the footage had reached the Ministry and was promptly forwarded to GES leadership for action.
“The attached viral video of a student assaulting another student has come to the attention of the Ministry. I’ve since forwarded it to the Director General of GES for action,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Education, Dr Apaak stressed that acts of disorder and misconduct within Ghana’s schools will not be condoned, declaring firmly: “Indiscipline will be punished.”
The widely circulated video shows a student repeatedly attacking a peer while others, seated nearby, looked on. Despite the victim’s attempts to move away, the assault reportedly continued, with bystanders failing to intervene.
GES is expected to investigate the matter, identify the student involved, and enforce appropriate sanctions in line with its disciplinary code. Authorities have assured the public that the case will be thoroughly examined and necessary measures taken against those found culpable.
The incident has reignited debate on student discipline, school safety, and the enforcement of behavioural standards across Ghana’s education system.
