“Integrity is the Strongest Antidote to Corruption” — Speaker Opens Training for Parliamentary Staff

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially launched a training programme on integrity and related themes for staff of the Parliamentary Service.

The initiative, jointly organised by the Legal and Governance Services Office, the Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI), and the Human Resource Department, seeks to instill values of integrity, ethical conduct, accountability, and professionalism among staff.

Addressing participants, the Speaker underscored that integrity remains one of the most valuable qualities in public service. He described it as the strongest antidote to corruption and the foundation upon which public trust is built. “Public confidence is not automatic; it must be earned through ethical behaviour and responsible actions,” he stressed.

He encouraged staff to fully embrace the training, apply the knowledge gained in their daily duties, and contribute to building a workplace culture rooted in ethics, accountability, and professionalism.

The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahuman Djietror, also highlighted the importance of integrity and professional conduct in the Service. He explained that the programme was carefully designed under the guidance of the Speaker in line with the Corruption Risk Mitigation Plan adopted in 2024.

“It seeks to enhance awareness and understanding of the code of conduct of public officers in grievance holding processing of services,” he noted.

Mr. Djietror described Parliament as a bastion of democracy that must uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability. He reminded staff that public service is a sacrifice rather than a profit-making venture, urging them to serve with sincerity and dedication.

The training forms part of Parliament’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional integrity and deepen public confidence in Ghana’s democratic governance.
