The Ghana Prisons Service has issued a strong public warning against individuals impersonating its officers on social media platforms, cautioning citizens to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes.
In an official statement released by the Public Affairs Department, the Service revealed that scammers have been posing as senior officers, including the Director General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (esq.), to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. The disclaimer emphasized that the Service does not authorize anyone to solicit money, gifts, or personal information through Facebook or other unofficial channels.
“All recruitment and official engagements are conducted strictly through approved and publicly announced procedures,” the notice stated, urging the public to avoid engaging with fraudulent accounts and to report suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or the Service’s official channels.
The Service further stressed that it will not be held responsible for losses incurred through dealings with imposters. It assured the public that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to apprehend and prosecute those involved in the fraudulent activities.
The statement, signed by DDP Janet Asabea, Head of Public Affairs, concluded with a call for heightened vigilance: “We urge all citizens to protect themselves by verifying information and avoiding any unauthorized solicitations.”
