The Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has announced the formation of a high-level investigative committee to examine the circumstances surrounding a reported maternal death at the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and addressed to all media houses, the Directorate expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and underscored its commitment to accountability, patient safety, and transparency. The Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Mrs. Alberta Adjeebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, signed the release.
The committee, which draws membership from the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, the Trauma & Specialist Hospital, the Regional Health Directorate, the Regional Co-ordinating Council, and the Attorney General’s office, has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of the incident. The investigation aims to identify lapses, recommend corrective measures, and strengthen systems to prevent future occurrences.
The Directorate appealed for calm and urged the public to refrain from interference while the committee carries out its work. It assured stakeholders that findings will be made public in line with its commitment to transparency and improved healthcare delivery.
The incident has drawn attention to maternal health challenges in the region, with health authorities emphasizing the need for stronger safeguards to protect mothers and children across Ghana’s healthcare facilities.
