Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has reassured the public that Ghana’s energy sector remains strong despite recent interruptions in electricity supply nationwide.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, the Minister acknowledged the disruptions but emphasised government’s commitment to reinforcing the sector and ensuring long-term stability. He disclosed that two major setbacks had recently affected power delivery, but insisted that urgent measures were underway to resolve them.
“We have recently experienced two setbacks that have impacted the power supply. While these incidents are unfortunate, they are being addressed with urgency and coordination. Our technical teams are actively working to resolve them, and we will maintain full transparency on their causes, implications, and the measures being taken to restore normalcy,” he said.
Mr Jinapor stressed that the overall outlook for the sector remains positive. “Notwithstanding these challenges, the overall trajectory of the power sector remains one of progress, reform, and resilience,” he noted.
He attributed the current difficulties partly to years of underinvestment in infrastructure, which he said had created gaps in capacity and reliability. However, he expressed confidence that the situation would improve under the present administration, as reforms and modernisation efforts intensify.
The Minister added that strategic interventions are already in motion to tackle existing challenges and reposition the sector for greater efficiency and reliability. He assured Ghanaians that sustained progress is expected, with ongoing work aimed at stabilising supply and securing long-term energy security for the country.
