Ghana Approves New Visa Waiver Agreements with Three Countries

The Government of Ghana has approved new visa waiver agreements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia as part of efforts to expand travel opportunities and strengthen diplomatic relations.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, April 22, noting that Cabinet had given its approval the previous day. The agreements cover holders of all categories of passports—ordinary, service, and diplomatic.

Under the arrangement, Ghanaians and citizens of the three countries will be able to undertake visits of up to 30 days per trip without requiring visas. Parliament is expected to ratify the Cabinet approvals in the coming days.

Hon. Ablakwa emphasized that the government will continue to negotiate additional visa waiver agreements to enhance the value of the Ghanaian passport while strengthening security protocols around its acquisition.

The initiative is expected to boost mobility, foster stronger bilateral ties, and create new opportunities for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
