Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has urged heightened vigilance and stronger collaboration in the fight against violent extremism during the Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) Senior-Level Talks held in Accra.
The high-level dialogue, hosted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), brought together key stakeholders to advance coordinated efforts at safeguarding stability, particularly in Northern Ghana where emerging threats demand urgent and sustained attention.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister described Ghana as a beacon of peace in the sub-region, emphasizing that this stability is the product of deliberate leadership, strategic coordination, and consistent investment in people and institutions. He stressed the importance of strengthened collaboration, timely interventions, and improved service delivery to tackle the root causes of vulnerability.
While acknowledging Ghana’s relative peace, Mr. Mubarak cautioned that the country is not insulated from the growing threat of terrorism. He underscored the need for proactive measures and sustained national commitment to prevent the spillover of violent extremism from the Sahel.
The Chief of Mission for IOM Ghana, Ms. Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, commended Ghana’s leadership in maintaining peace and reinforcing its security framework. She reaffirmed IOM’s commitment to supporting national efforts under the CSSM initiative.
The dialogue also brought together Regional Ministers from the Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah Regions, where ongoing interventions are focused on enhancing state presence, improving service delivery, and building resilient communities in the face of socio-economic challenges.
