Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined the people of the Sokpoe Traditional Area in the South Tongu District to mark the 40th Tortsogbeza Festival, conveying warm greetings on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama. She commended the Traditional Council, chiefs, and elders for their leadership and unity in sustaining the cultural heritage of the community.
In her address, the Vice President highlighted the significance of the festival in promoting heritage, communal identity, and collective progress, particularly within a district that serves as a gateway to the Volta Region. She acknowledged key concerns of the community, including recovery efforts following the 2023 floods, road infrastructure challenges, and logistical support for traditional authorities.
Reaffirming government’s commitment, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured that critical areas such as road development and healthcare delivery would receive the needed attention, while commending ongoing efforts to improve health facilities in the area.
She further encouraged unity and collaboration, emphasizing that sustainable development is best achieved through shared purpose. The Vice President urged patience as government advances its broader infrastructure agenda, assuring the people of Sokpoe that their concerns remain central to national development priorities.
The festival, which drew large crowds from across the Volta Region, showcased traditional music, dance, and cultural displays, reinforcing the importance of heritage in fostering unity and resilience.
