British High Commissioner Highlights Strength of Ghana-UK Health Partnership

A delegation led by the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to discuss ongoing health sector reforms and deepen bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Hon. Akandoh outlined Ghana’s progress in strengthening healthcare delivery, citing the expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme, investment in primary healthcare, local pharmaceutical manufacturing, retooling of health facilities, and the rollout of specialised nursing and medical training programmes. He emphasized government’s commitment to addressing workforce challenges, enhancing technology in healthcare, and completing ongoing hospital projects.

The Minister further underscored Ghana’s dedication to global health partnerships and its active participation in upcoming international conferences, noting that collaboration with partners such as the United Kingdom remains vital to advancing the country’s health agenda.

High Commissioner Rogg commended Ghana’s strides in healthcare reform and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts. He stressed the importance of strengthening the Ghana-UK Health Partnership, particularly in the lead-up to the UK-hosted Global Development Conference, where health cooperation will feature prominently.

The meeting highlighted the shared priorities of both nations in building resilient health systems, fostering innovation, and ensuring that healthcare delivery meets the evolving needs of their populations.
