The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has presented a statement on the floor of Parliament to commemorate World Kidney Day 2026, urging Ghanaians to take proactive steps in safeguarding their kidney health.
This year’s celebration is being observed under the theme “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Environment.” Hon. Akandoh explained that the occasion serves as a platform to raise awareness about kidney disease, promote early detection, and strengthen national responses to the growing burden of kidney-related conditions.
He called on citizens to adopt healthy lifestyles, undergo regular medical screening, and support efforts to protect Ghana’s water bodies, stressing the need to end harmful practices such as illegal mining (Galamsey).
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to prevention, expanding access to healthcare, and building a resilient health system capable of addressing kidney disease and other non-communicable conditions.
World Kidney Day is observed annually to highlight the importance of kidney health and mobilize action against the rising global challenge of kidney disease.
