President Mahama Urges Bold Private Sector Partnerships for Growth

President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghana’s private sector to forge bold partnerships with government to accelerate economic growth and national development.

Speaking at a strategic Presidential Dialogue, the President emphasized the need to position Ghana as West Africa’s production hub. “We must work to make Ghana West Africa’s production hub,” he stated, urging businesses to leverage the country’s hosting of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat to expand trade, industrialisation, and regional competitiveness.

President Mahama also highlighted the importance of sustainable investment in sports development. He noted that no country achieves sporting excellence without deliberate funding systems, and invited corporate Ghana to support the Ghana Sports Fund. “I invite corporate Ghana to view this not as charity but as a partnership for national development,” he said.

The dialogue forms part of the President’s broader agenda to strengthen collaboration between government and the private sector, with the aim of driving industrial growth, boosting exports, and enhancing Ghana’s role in regional trade.

Observers say the call reflects growing recognition of the private sector’s role in shaping Ghana’s economic future, particularly in light of opportunities presented by AfCFTA and the need to diversify national development strategies.
