President John Dramani Mahama this afternoon visited two survivors of Saturday’s terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, who are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The victims, part of a group of Ghanaian tomato traders ambushed by armed bandits in northern Burkina Faso, were successfully transported home by the Ghana Armed Forces. Seven other traders lost their lives in the attack and have since been buried.

Accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, President Mahama commiserated with the injured survivors and assured them that the government would absorb their medical bills.

Earlier in the day, the President had been in Takoradi to open the Minerals Commission’s Local Content Summit. He proceeded directly from the airport to the hospital to meet the victims, underscoring the government’s concern for the welfare of citizens affected by the tragedy.

The visit comes as security agencies continue to monitor cross-border threats and provide support to traders who frequently travel through vulnerable areas in the sub-region.
