The Government of Ghana has summoned the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Sergei Berdnikov, following reports of unlawful conduct by a supposed Russian national who allegedly published sexually explicit images of Ghanaian women without their consent.
The Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs conveyed Ghana’s strong displeasure during the meeting, stressing that the act constituted a grave violation of the privacy and dignity of the victims. The summons sought Russia’s cooperation in pursuing justice against the individual responsible.
Ambassador Berdnikov acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and expressed willingness to cooperate with Ghanaian authorities. He clarified, however, that the identity of the alleged perpetrator could not be confirmed as Russian, noting that the name circulating in the media was not a recognized Russian name but rather a vulgar expression in the Russian language.
He further revealed that similar activities by the individual had been reported in other countries and assured that Russian authorities were investigating. Despite the absence of a legally binding extradition treaty, the Ambassador pledged that the Embassy in Ghana would share information to aid Ghana’s efforts in apprehending the suspect.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Ghanaian citizens, while maintaining cordial bilateral relations with Russia. It also assured the public that international tools and remedies would be explored to secure justice for the victims.
