Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has welcomed the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, His Excellency Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, to Accra for a high-level conference on regional cooperation and security.
The two-day summit, scheduled for January 28 and 29, 2026, will be held under the distinguished chairmanship of former President John Dramani Mahama. The gathering is expected to bring together key stakeholders to deliberate on practical, homegrown African solutions to the growing insecurity challenges confronting the sub-region.
Speaking ahead of the summit, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the urgency of coordinated efforts to safeguard peace and stability. “We are determined to coordinate efforts and roll out strategies aimed at guaranteeing the peace and stability of our region, for without peace there can be no development,” he stated.
Ambassador Adeoye’s presence underscores the African Union’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that prioritize African-led strategies in addressing security threats. The conference is anticipated to produce actionable frameworks that will strengthen cooperation among member states and reinforce the continent’s resolve to secure lasting peace.
