Government Clears GH¢115.9m Arrears to Stabilise Premix Fuel Supply

The Government of Ghana, under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, has taken decisive steps to stabilise the downstream petroleum supply chain and safeguard the premix fuel programme as part of the Resetting Ghana Agenda.

On January 16, 2026, Government fully settled outstanding under-recoveries amounting to GH¢115,957,330 owed to Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) for the period March to September 2025.

The payment removes a major liquidity constraint faced by BDCs and is expected to ensure the timely and reliable supply of premix fuel to artisanal fisherfolk across coastal and inland fishing communities nationwide.

By clearing these arrears, Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the premix fuel subsidy framework—a critical intervention designed to reduce operational costs for small-scale fishers, protect livelihoods, and boost productivity within the fisheries value chain.

This intervention further underscores President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, which prioritises economic stabilisation, institutional efficiency, transparency, and the protection of vulnerable sectors, including fisheries and coastal livelihoods.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, working in collaboration with relevant energy sector institutions, has assured that premix fuel distribution will be closely monitored to guarantee accountability, fairness, and uninterrupted supply to intended beneficiaries.

This action forms part of broader government efforts to strengthen food security, restore confidence in key supply chains, and reposition the fisheries sector as a pillar of national development under the Resetting Ghana Agenda.
