According to police reports, the suspects targeted a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor operating at Aba Fosuah Plaza. One of the men, riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor under the guise of making a cash-out transaction. As the vendor attempted to process the request, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash.
When the victim resisted, the rider joined in the struggle. During the scuffle, the pillion passenger shot the vendor in the leg, forcing her to surrender the bag. The suspects fled the scene on a black Royal motorbike with registration number M-24-GE 778.
A police patrol team from the Regional Operations Unit, who had been deployed nearby, responded swiftly to a distress call. The suspects, upon reaching a junction near Smart Hotel at Community 6, opened fire on the pursuing officers. Police returned fire, and both suspects sustained gunshot wounds, falling off the motorbike.
The suspects were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. A search on them revealed a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with ammunition, three Android mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key, and cash amounting to GH₵11,390. Investigations later confirmed that the Ghana Card found on the suspects belonged to the robbery victim.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for her leg injury and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Tema Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and security in the region. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
