Sulley Muntari’s winner ends Hearts of Oak’s winless run

Accra Hearts of Oak on Wednesday afternoon recorded their first premier league against WAFA since 30 January 2022, when they beat King Faisal by a lone goal.

After a quiet first half from both sides, Kwadwo Obeng Jr put Hearts of Oak in the lead a minute after halftime. The striker went past three WAFA defenders after receiving the ball in the box before slotting the ball home.

In the 55th minute, the Sogakope-based club equalised courtesy of a brilliant free-kick by Derek Antwi Mensah after he intelligently beat Richard Attah at the near post.

Fifteen minutes to the end, Patrick Razak earned the Phobians a penalty after a rush challenge by the WAFA goalkeeper. The resulting kick was calmly slot home by Sulley Ali Muntari.

This moves the Phobians up to 6th, and 12 points behind the league leaders. Hearts travel to Dormaa for an encounter with Aduana Stars while WAFA host a struggling Real Tamale United at the Red Bull arena.
