The Upper East Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of seven suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent attacks in Zebilla, Garu, and Binduri.
The suspects, identified as Issaka Iddrisu (20), Ali Tamimu (21), Akugre Amobila (26), Banabas Apiiga (41), Abdul‑Rashid Adamu (38), Apiiga Alebena (21), and Bilal Adabodee (31), were apprehended in an intelligence‑led operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), the newly formed Black Cobra Unit, and the Zebilla Community Watchdogs.
Police reports indicate the suspects confessed to belonging to a wider criminal network supplied with weapons to facilitate their operations. Two victims have since identified some of the suspects as part of a gang that robbed them at gunpoint of Yamaha scooters valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000, threatening to kill them if they reported the crime.
Investigations revealed that the weapon used in the robbery was provided by a contact in Bawku, who serves as the group’s armourer and custodian. A search at the homes of three suspects — Abdul‑Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena, and Bilal Adabodee — uncovered two unregistered motorbikes, quantities of hard drugs, and GH¢29,550 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
All seven suspects have been remanded into police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and are scheduled to reappear on September 23, 2026. Police say efforts are underway to track and arrest the alleged weapon supplier.
