The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Yeboah Godfred Dame, has recommended that 2020 parliamentary elections in the Buem Constituency, consisting of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe area in the Oti Region, be invalidated for fresh polls.
This will allow the SALL constituents practise their rights to vote and be represented in the 8th Parliament.
Mr Dame said the constitutional instrument needed to create the new constituency (Guan constituency) was with the electoral commission and would be put before parliament shortly.
“Mr Speaker, the way to go, if we want to achieve representation of the SALL areas in the lifetime of this Parliament is to ensure the proper areas that have been allocated within proper constituencies duly created by the law are given their rights to vote in proper elections properly conducted to duly elected members of Parliament,” he said.
He explained that as mandated by C.I. 128, proper election ought to be conducted to elect a member of parliament to portray all the ideas of people in Buem Constituency.
The people of SALL did not take part in the Parliamentary ballots but exercised their franchise in the Presidential polls, expecting the creation of the Guan Constituency.
