The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak (MP), has announced a review of restrictions on motorbike riding within the Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region.
By Executive Instrument and on the advice of the National Security Council, residents are now permitted to ride motorbikes between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily, effective Monday, August 24, 2026.
The Ministry emphasized that curfew hours remain unchanged, running from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and reiterated the total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons in the municipality and surrounding areas. Individuals found violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
Government has appealed to Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents to exercise restraint and adopt non‑violent approaches in addressing challenges confronting the area. The Interior Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to sustaining peace and stability, urging community cooperation with security agencies to ensure law and order.
