Parliament has approved a credit facility agreement between the Government of Ghana and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group for an amount of US$300 million to finance the Secondary Education for Transformation, Access, Relevance and Results for Jobs (STARR‑J) Project.
Presenting the Finance Committee’s report to the House, Chairman Hon. Isaac Adongo explained that the facility is aimed at increasing equitable access to secondary education, eliminating the double‑track system, and improving the quality and labour‑market relevance of secondary and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, expressed appreciation to Members of Parliament for approving the facility, noting that it will strengthen Ghana’s education systems and equip young people with the skills required to meet the demands of the modern economy.
The STARR‑J Project forms part of government’s broader reforms to expand infrastructure, enhance learning outcomes, and align education with national development priorities.
