Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has completed a move to Sheffield United, signing a one‑year contract with the Championship club after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.
The 34‑year‑old forward arrives as a free agent and immediately links up with Chris Wilder’s squad, filling the Blades’ 25‑man roster. Ayew’s last competitive outing came at the FIFA World Cup, where he started all four of Ghana’s matches, including the goalless draw against England that secured the Black Stars’ place in the knockout stage.
Wilder expressed delight at securing the experienced striker, noting his versatility and pedigree. “We’re talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game. Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he’s someone with real pedigree,” the manager said.
Ayew, who has amassed more than 500 competitive appearances across clubs including Marseille, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City, said he was eager to make an immediate impact. “I’m really, really pleased to be here. The manager and the club made a great effort to get me here as quick as possible. I didn’t think twice, I just took the opportunity,” he remarked.
The Ghanaian forward now begins a new chapter in English football as Sheffield United look to strengthen their attacking options for the season.
