The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of arrears for the 2023 Capitation Grant to basic schools across the country.
In a circular dated 14th September 2026 and signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Deputy Director‑General (MS), the Service confirmed that funds have been transferred to the accounts of District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to schools. The transfer includes the Sports and Culture component for district offices, while regional allocations for Sports and Culture have been lodged in designated accounts of the Regional offices.
Regional Directors have been directed to ensure that the funds reach schools before the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year to enable smooth operations. The GES further indicated that a monitoring team from its Headquarters will visit regions to ensure compliance.
Management expressed confidence in the cooperation of Regional Directors, stressing that timely disbursement is critical to sustaining teaching and learning activities at the basic school level.
