The Bank of Ghana has joined the nation in mourning the passing of His Royal Majesty, Ndan Yaa‑Naa Abukari II, King of Dagbon, describing him as a revered custodian of culture, peace, and unity whose leadership strengthened Ghana’s stability and development.
In a statement issued on Monday, the central bank expressed “deep sadness” at the loss of the monarch, noting that his wise counsel and commitment to national cohesion will be greatly missed.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of the Bank of Ghana, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Elders, the people of Dagbon, and the bereaved Royal Family,” the release said.
The institution prayed for fortitude for the Dagbon Kingdom during this difficult period, adding: “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
The late Yaa‑Naa Abukari II, who ascended the throne in 2019, was widely respected for his role in consolidating peace in Dagbon after years of conflict. His reign was marked by efforts to foster unity, cultural pride, and development across the Northern Region and beyond.
His passing has drawn tributes from across Ghana’s political, traditional, and institutional spectrum, underscoring his stature as a national figure whose influence extended far beyond the Dagbon Kingdom.
