Ayariga Partners NCCE, GBC to Broadcast Local Assembly Meetings

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has announced a new initiative to provide live coverage of General Assembly and Town Hall meetings across Ghana’s Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The programme, developed in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and citizen participation in local governance, in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

Mr. Ayariga explained that broadcasting Assembly sessions will generate greater public interest in the upcoming District‑Level Elections and encourage citizens to actively engage in the decentralisation process.

“Together, we can build more transparent, accountable and responsive local institutions,” he stated.

The initiative marks a significant step toward deepening civic involvement, ensuring that decisions taken at the local level are not only visible but also open to scrutiny by the communities they affect.
