You can’t reluctantly extend the date for SIM card registration, it’s a must- Mallam Fary

Issahaku  Yusif (Mallam Fary), a journalist and regular panellist on the newspaper review segment of Tsarin Safiya, has chided the Minister of Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful  for saying  she ‘reluctantly’ extended the initial deadline for SIM registration from  31st  July  to 30th September 2022.

She made this statement in a press briefing on her Sunday, 31st July 2022 to address the challenges being faced by Ghanaians in the ongoing SIM registration exercise.

In a special editorial presentation by Mallam Fary on Baina TV’s morning show, Tsarin Safiya, on Monday, 1 August 2022, he said the Minister had no right to tell Ghanaians she ‘reluctantly’ had to extend the deadline date, arguing that it was rather her duty.

‘‘You cannot reluctantly extend the date, you will do it and you have to because it’s a must for you. How does she expect over 40 million subscribers to register their SIM cards with the kind of poor and porous system we have as a country. We are living in a country where our leaders don’t respect the citizens, only doing things in their own interests and making it look like they are doing us a favour. They should bear in mind that they are there to work for us and no to do us a favour like the make it look like’’ an agitated Mallam Fary said.

He again added that every amount of money spent at the NCA is the tax payers’ money and for that reason, the NCA and NIA must be held responsible for causing financial loss to the state.

Mallam Fary in his presentation mentioned that the Communication Ministry and the National Identification Authority should stop the blame game and find solutions to the issue at hand.

In his presentation, he questioned the purpose of the app, claiming it is a total waste of time and an avenue to waste the tax payer’s money.

‘‘What prevented them from doing this earlier?’’ he quizzed.
