ORC Sets January 17 Deadline for Renewal of Business Names

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has announced that business names which have not been renewed by January 17, 2027, will be removed from the Register maintained by the Office.

In a public notice issued on November 4, 2026, the Registrar reminded business owners that all registered business names are required to be renewed annually upon the expiry of their registration.

According to the ORC, it has observed that a number of business names on the Register have not been renewed as required by law.

The notice stated that any business name that is not renewed on or before January 17, 2027, will be deemed to have lapsed and will subsequently be cancelled and removed from the Register.

The Registrar warned that once a business name is removed, it ceases to exist legally and any individual or entity that continues to operate under the cancelled name would be in breach of the law and liable to the applicable sanctions.

As part of measures to regularise their status, business owners have been advised to renew their business names at any Office of the Registrar of Companies nationwide or through the short code *222#.

The ORC further urged affected business owners to settle all outstanding renewal fees and update any changes in their particulars, including business addresses and the nature of their operations.

Business owners who no longer intend to operate under a registered business name have also been encouraged to notify the Registrar in writing for the name to be removed from the Register.

The Office said the exercise forms part of its commitment to enforcing compliance with Ghana’s corporate regulatory framework while promoting high standards of corporate governance and business transparency.

The Registrar urged all affected businesses to take immediate action to avoid the cancellation of their business names and any legal consequences that may arise from non-compliance.
