Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries to represent the constituency in the next general election.
In a statement issued on October 22, Ms. Safo said her decision followed extensive consultations with party leadership, executives and stakeholders, as well as personal reflection on her commitment to the constituency and the principles of the NPP.
She described her relationship with the people of Dome-Kwabenya as one rooted in years of service, sacrifice and a shared aspiration to advance the development of the constituency.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency,” she stated.
Ms. Safo revealed that although she had previously indicated an intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency, she had concluded that there was no greater honour than serving and representing the people of Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament.
She said her decision to return to the contest was informed by her enduring commitment to the constituency and her belief that she still has much to contribute to its development.
Reflecting on her tenure, the former MP noted that Dome-Kwabenya remains one of Ghana’s fastest-growing constituencies, presenting both opportunities and developmental challenges.
According to her, significant progress was made during her 12 years as Member of Parliament through collaboration with residents, party faithful, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Ms. Safo highlighted the growth in the NPP’s electoral performance in the constituency during her time as parliamentary candidate, stating that the party’s votes increased from about 35,000 before her candidature to 63,373 in 2012, 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in the 2020 election.
She attributed those achievements to the collective efforts of party members, supporters and constituents who shared a common vision for the constituency.
The former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister also emphasized the importance of party unity, describing it as the foundation of the NPP’s strength and future success.
She pledged to continue working to create opportunities for young people, improve livelihoods and ensure that the concerns of ordinary residents receive the attention they deserve.
Ms. Safo further called on party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage in constructive dialogue about the future of Dome-Kwabenya and the leadership required to drive its next phase of growth.
Reaffirming her commitment to the constituency, she declared that Dome-Kwabenya remains her home and that her resolve to serve its people remains steadfast.
