GES Announces Reopening of Obuasi Senior High Technical School

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced plans to resume academic activities for continuing students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (OSECTEC), following the temporary closure of the institution in August.

In a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations at GES, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said efforts are underway to facilitate the return of continuing students to campus.

The school has remained closed to continuing students since August 5, 2026, following disturbances on the campus, while first-year students have remained in school since reporting for the academic year on September 18.

According to GES, preparations for the resumption of academic work for continuing students are at an advanced stage, with the students expected to return to school sometime next week.

Management expressed confidence that the necessary arrangements are being put in place to ensure a smooth reopening and the continuation of teaching and learning activities.

The statement did not provide a specific reopening date but assured students, parents and the general public that further updates would be communicated when necessary.

The planned reopening comes after weeks of disruption to academic activities for continuing students and is expected to restore normalcy to the school calendar.

GES reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning and pledged to keep stakeholders informed on developments regarding the reopening process.
